Breed-Specific Risks Purebreds carry known hereditary conditions — hip dysplasia, brachycephalic airway issues, luxating patella. A generic plan wasn't built around these; a breed-specific one is.
Cover From Day One Conditions can surface early. Getting your pup covered as soon as they come home avoids the "pre-existing condition" trap that catches owners who wait.
Peace of Mind for New Owners Bringing a puppy home should be about bonding, not bracing for surprise bills. Protection sorted early means one less thing to worry about.
Bringing home a new puppy is one of life’s best days, and the Dogz Online community knows better than most that purebred dogs come with their own health considerations. Selective breeding that gives a breed its look and temperament can also carry a higher chance of certain inherited conditions.
That’s why cover from day one matters. Getting your puppy insured early, ideally before their first vet visit, means nothing gets excluded as pre-existing later on. Common conditions to be aware of in purebred dogs include:
– Hip and elbow dysplasia
– Luxating patella
– Cruciate ligament injuries
– Heart conditions
– Skin allergies
– Entropion

From 6 weeks old, across all three plans. Accident Plan covers pets from 6 weeks to 12 years, while Classic and Deluxe cover 6 weeks to 9 years. Getting your Plan started as early as possible means less chance of anything being excluded as pre-existing later.
Yes — under the Classic and Deluxe Plans, illness cover includes hereditary conditions (genetic conditions passed down through your pet's bloodline, commonly breed-specific), with a 180-day waiting period. The Accident Plan doesn't cover hereditary or congenital conditions, as these fall outside its accident-only scope.
Purebred dogs are more likely to carry breed-specific hereditary risks. Protection that includes hereditary conditions means those breed-specific risks aren't left uncovered.
Your investment is calculated on your pet's age and breed, and typically climbs as your dog gets older. Getting your puppy covered early usually means a lower starting investment, plus full protection before anything has the chance to become a pre-existing condition.
Accident cover applies from day one. Illness, poisoning, and swallowed objects have a 21-day wait. Hereditary conditions, cruciate ligament/patella issues, dental illness, and third-party liability each carry a 180-day wait, counted from your Plan's start date.
